Cell Wars Pt 2. - The Golgi apparatus

Summary: Also known as the Golgi Body, the Golgi Apparatus is is a “packaging organelle”. In fact it is known as the post office of the cell. The Golgi Apparatus gathers simple molecules and combines them to create complex molecules. Then packages the complex molecules in vesicles and either stores them or sends them out of the cell. It works with the Endoplasmic Reticulum as it modifies, packages, and ships lipids and proteins synthesized by the ER. The Golgi Apparatus was actually one of the first organelles to be observed. A Italian physician named Camillo Golgi discovered it when he was investigating the nervous system.

SP7: Engaging in argument from evidence:  I examined my own understanding in light of the evidence. I used to think that the Golgi Apparatus was the only packaging cell and it worked alone, but because of further research on the Golgi Apparatus now I know that the Golgi Apparatus works with the ER and the ribosomes. The ribosomes makes the proteins, then the ER synthesis the protein and sends it to the Golgi and it packages and either stores it or sends them out into the cell.

XCC: Systems and System Models: The cell is a big system. If one of the parts of the cell or the system decides not to do it's job anymore the whole system shuts down. Which in means that the whole cell dies and even more cells die and so on and so forth. Even the Golgi body has a system, first the ribosomes need to make the proteins, then the ER needs to synthesize them, and then the Golgi takes the synthesized proteins and packages them in vesicles and either send them out of stores them.
