Human Body Redesign - Project Blog - 11/20/16
Summary:
Your immune system is the defense against bacteria. It fights bacteria before medicine does. Your immune system performs many different actions to destroy bacteria to keep you healthy. However, there are also some serious flaws in the immune system. The problem is that the white blood cells in the immune system sometimes attack red blood cells and other “good” cells thinking that they are pathogens and bacteria. Another problem is the skin is too easy penetrate. We want to reprogram the white blood cells so that they are smarter to know the difference between good and bad because sometimes your white blood cells will attack your red blood cells. We can also make it so that there are more white blood cells so that when viruses get into your body it is easier to kill the virus and so that you don’t get sick as easily or much at all. Your skin should also be thicker so that when something tries to puncture your body it is much harder. Now you make ask, what would be needed in order for our redesign to work? Well for the skin’s redesign what we could do is make it so that the skin is thicker and so that they it is harder to puncture by having more layers of skin. We could also make it so that there are are slightly more ways for you to sweat so that you don’t overheat.Research shows and has proved that we can create a type of cell called the iPS cell.. You may be asking, what are iPS cells? They are self-renewing, meaning they can divide and produce copies of themselves indefinitely. In the future, they might also provide an unlimited supply of replacement cells and tissues for many patients with currently untreatable diseases.
Backward: Before starting this project I didn't know much about the immune system in general, much less the problems associated with it and how it could improve. Before this project I had not been taught about how the immune system works and how it does it.
Inward: I enjoyed this project because I like to redesign things, to make them better. I find passion in finding problems associated with something and redesigning it or making it better. The piece of work that my group and I created I think was fairly well. We explain what we want to do, how we are going to it, and why we want to do this. However I thought that my group and I could have made it better, perhaps by not making a google slide and perhaps making something different, such as an animaker or powtoons.
Outward: Everyone was redesigning something different. However there were other groups that did the immune system, but those groups redesigned different parts of the immune system. Not similar to ours. Yes, every group that did this project had to make a presentation, a design brief and a written argument, so you could say that we did our work like others.
Forward: If I were to do this project again I would change to things. First, the length of our presentation. I think that it was too long for the information we were stating. The second thing is not making a google presentation. I believe we should have done something different because in that format we can control the length and how much information we want to give the audience.
